DFW Film Critics Name ‘The Shape of Water’ Best Picture of 2017

The Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association voted the fantasy romance THE SHAPE OF WATER as the best film of 2017, according to the results of its 24th annual critics’ poll released today.

Rounding out the composite list of the top 10 films of the year were THE POST (2), LADY BIRD (3), CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (4), GET OUT (5), DUNKIRK (6), THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI (7), I, TONYA (8), THE FLORIDA PROJECT (9) and DARKEST HOUR (10).

For Best Actor, the association named Gary Oldman for DARKEST HOUR. Runners-up included James Franco for THE DISASTER ARTIST (2), Daniel Day-Lewis for PHANTOM THREAD (3), Timothee Chalamet for CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (4) and Tom Hanks for THE POST (5).

Sally Hawkins was voted Best Actress for THE SHAPE OF WATER. Next in the voting were Frances McDormand for THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI (2), Margot Robbie for I, TONYA (3), Saoirse Ronan for LADY BIRD (4) and Meryl Streep for THE POST (5).

DFW Film Critics Name ‘Moonlight’ Best Film of 2016

The Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association voted the intimate drama MOONLIGHT as the best film of 2016, according to the results of its 23rd annual critics’ poll released today.

Rounding out the composite list of the top 10 films of the year were MANCHESTER BY THE SEA (2), LA LA LAND (3), HELL OR HIGH WATER (4), ARRIVAL (5), JACKIE (6), LOVING (7), 20TH CENTURY WOMEN (8), HACKSAW RIDGE (9) and SILENCE (10).

For Best Actor, the association named Casey Affleck for MANCHESTER BY THE SEA. Runners-up included Denzel Washington for FENCES (2), Joel Edgerton for LOVING (3), Ryan Gosling for LA LA LAND (4) and Tom Hanks for SULLY (5).

Natalie Portman was voted Best Actress for JACKIE. Next in the voting were Emma Stone for LA LA LAND (2), Ruth Negga for LOVING (3), Amy Adams for ARRIVAL (4) and Annette Bening for 20TH CENTURY WOMEN (5).
